New Name & Expanded Programs!
The United Way of Northern New York is excited to announce the rebranding and launch of our expanded Education and Training Center, now named the North STAR Center for Professional Development.
Originally named the North Country Center of Nonprofit Excellence, the United Way shifted to focus on providing professional development through our Virtual Training Series and Leadership Learning Circles on topics of interest and importance to individuals and organizations in the social impact (nonprofit), public, and small business sectors. The Northern New York Community Foundation and the North Country Council of Social Agencies both partnered to establish the center and its curriculum.
United Way of Northern New York’s Education and Training center started in January 2020 providing professional development programming that maximized the limited resources of organizations within our communities, specifically focusing on nonprofits within the North Country.
“When we looked at the volume of students that we had served in dozens of different subject areas, it was clear that we were ready to make a leap to best-in-class training and education for individual and organizational capacity building,” said Jamie Cox, Chief Executive Officer. “The North STAR Center for Professional Development fills the needs and demands of small to large organizations, and from young executives to seasoned leaders.”
The North STAR Center will continue to build the capacity of individuals and organizations through training and educational experiences, but to all professionals within and outside of the North Country given the virtual delivery platform.
“We believe that the North STAR Center for Professional Development better reflects the breadth of programming we offer moving forward into 2022 and beyond,” said Dr. Tanya Eastman, Director of Education and Training for the United Way of Northern New York. “The new name, more specifically, STAR, reflects our approach to supporting professional development and serving the community – Strengthen and transform individuals and organizations, through training and education, to be agile and relevant.”
