About The Presenter
Dr. Denise DiRienzo
Dr. Denise DiRienzo is an innovative leader that strategically works with faculty, staff, students, community leaders, and businesses to combine research, student success, and university goals into a collaborative framework of success. She is a collaborative team player that actively listens and understands stakeholder needs from market research and implementation initiatives. Her background in education and industry brings robust views and experiences to her mentoring and coaching workshops.
She is currently the Director of Outreach and Engagement at Cornell University Graduate School. In this position she focuses on creating and implementing programming for PhD students and postdocs interested in careers outside of academia. She also serves as a facilitator in the Leadership and Communication courses for eCornell. Prior to Cornell, she served as the Director of the Center of Experiential Learning at SUNY Oswego where she led a newly developed department that focused on experiential education and career planning including pre-professional advising, service learning, undergraduate research, and entrepreneurial activities. During her tenure at SUNY she was also a faculty member in the School of Communication, Media and the Arts and managed a SUNY grant as the Content Manager and Online Instructor for professional development curriculum for all SUNY campuses.
Prior to her work in education DiRienzo was the Executive Director at the Syracuse Area Landmark Theatre, a historic performing arts center, for 14 years. During her tenure at the Theatre she oversaw, preserved and maintained operations, including stage, technical productions, front of house operations, concessions, box office operations, maintenance, security and volunteers of the historic venue. A significant accomplishment was her leadership of a development program consisting of corporate grants, membership and government grants that raised over 22 million dollars to expand and restore the Landmark Theatre.
DiRienzo was affiliated with the Oneida Indian Nation for nearly seven years, from prior to the casino’s opening, through the development of special events and opening of the resort. She started as a freelance writer and steadily progressed through full-time employment positions beginning with Senior Writer & Editor and culminating with four promotions to the position of Promotions and Special Events Manager at Turning Stone Casino Resort.
She has a doctorate of Education from St. John Fisher College, Masters of Science in Public Relations from Syracuse University and Bachelors of Arts from St. John Fisher College in Communications/Journalism.
